The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) provides shell out more than 20 billion reais in financing the electricity sector in 2015, according to the superintendent of the institution's infrastructure area, Nelson Siffert. The executive said that the volume is between 50% and 60% of total investments planned for the sector in the year, and is in line with the projections contained in the Investment Plan for Energy of the federal government, which provides 185 billion of investments reais between 2015 and 2018.
"As the electricity sector aims at the long run, it is less susceptible to crisis," Siffert said during an event in Sao Paulo. According to him, the economy is on pace to slowdown, this is the time for the industry "seeking more efficiently, given that demand for energy will not grow as imagined."
The superintendent also said that BNDES has encouraged the issuance of debentures (bonds) of infrastructure, which has already resulted in funding of about 2 billion reais for hydroelectric projects and $ 1 billion for wind farms.
