Current jet reaching more sold by Boeing, the 777 is ready to advance generation. The US manufacturer announced on Thursday (27) that it has completed the process of setting up new family of aircraft 777X, which will lead to models 777-800 and 777-900. According to the company, the first delivery is scheduled for 2020.
The setup process, conducted in partnership with Boeing airline customers and suppliers, will be defined as the final version of the aircraft. Wind tunnel data, aerodynamic performance and structural load are also studied to see if the new 777 meets the requirements. With this phase complete, the production has green light.
According to Boeing, the new 777 family has range, fuel consumption and load capacity "significantly" higher than the current model and equivalent to the Airbus A350, its main competitor.
As explained by the manufacturer, the new 777 will be 12% more efficient in kerosene consumption and will have operating costs 10% lower compared to the current line. Boeing also revealed that prepares updates to improve comfort for passengers.
The 777X program already has 320 orders (firm or in study) six airlines. Production will begin in 2017. The Boeing 777-900X, with 76.7 meters in length, will be the largest aircraft in the world equipped with only two engines.
