A Gol plane preparing to take off from the airport Santos Dumont in Rio de Janeiro, around 19 hours on Friday, skidded while maneuvering on the runway and ended up with a jammed wheel on a grass patch.No one was hurt, according to the company, but the plane was evacuated and passengers had to wait for another flight. Airport officials only managed to clearing the aircraft, which would follow towards Belo Horizonte, two hours later.
According to witnesses, due to a change in wind direction at the time of takeoff the pilot was told by airport control tower to change lanes. As he maneuvered a wheel of the plane passed over a stretch of grass and jammed. As the aircraft did not leave the place more, the solution was to empty the machine.
Because of the problem, the airport was closed for takeoffs and landings. At least 20 flights were delayed and nine cancelados.O Santos Dumont was only reopened for takeoffs and landings at 21h20, according to Infraero (state-owned company that manages the airport).
