Half (53%) of women initiate sexual life between 16 and 18 years in Brazil. The survey, conducted by the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) also revealed that 62% of respondents, the theme of "virginity" is no longer a taboo. According to the study, however, 60% of them still are embarrassed to talk about sex and contraception and the main reason for this is pointed out to be an issue "very intimate" (44%). Still, three out of ten young people said they had had a positive conversation about sexuality with parents or guardians.
Care - Among the contraceptive methods used by women, they are virtually tied the condom (35%) and the pill (34%). Already 13% of respondents stated opt for the long-acting contraceptives, such as intrauterine device (IUD) and the implant. The figures also indicate that 77% of women have the habit of going to the gynecologist.
Pregnancy - According to the survey, 81% of women know someone who got pregnant before age 16.For 45% of respondents, the main reason for the unplanned pregnancy is "irresponsible". Another 26% say that the main cause is forgetfulness or incorrect use of the contraceptive method chosen.
Afonso Nazario, professor in the Department of Obstetrics of Unifesp-EPM, explains that, not to get pregnant, you must, of course, combine condom and pill or IUD. "There is some confusion among adolescents. They emphasize condoms, but if you do not want to get pregnant should use another method of contraception together. This needs to be strengthened always among young people. There are so many teenagers getting pregnant in an unplanned way in Brazil" said the gynecologist.
Professor of EPM-Unifesp also pointed out that most of the teenagers are unaware of the risks that a pregnancy in youth can cause the woman's body: 76% said they did not know what the negative consequences. According to Nazario, the risk that a pregnancy can cause premature birth are, baby malnutrition, pre-eclampsia, among others.
According to the study, the most important for women in a relationship is "thinking of the family and make future plans" (22%), love (22%), companionship (15%) and sex (14%). 51% of young people, sex is a personal pleasure and, while 32% said they were open to sex without commitment, 26% "would never do."
