The German carmaker Volkswagen has appointed the current president of Porsche, Matthias Müller, 62, as the new president of the group, the company said on Friday. Müller will keep his post ahead of Porsche until a successor is found. At Volkswagen, it will replace Martin Winterkorn , who announced his resignation on Wednesday after taking responsibility for the fraud scandal in emissions testing.

Since last week, Volkswagen is in the center of a scandal that has gained worldwide recognition. The automaker has admitted to using a system that tampers with the greenhouse gas emissions by up to 11 million cars powered by diesel. In tests, the car had low emissions, but then in the streets, the volume of pollutants was higher than the test.

At a news conference, Müller said his job "more urgent is to return confidence to the Volkswagen Group, sparing no effort and with maximum transparency", and stressed that a scandal such as the current will not happen again. "Under my leadership, Volkswagen will do everything we can to develop and implement governance standards in accordance with the strictest of our industry," he said.

Brazil - In Brazil, the Brazilian Institute of Environment (IBAMA) decided to investigate the automaker."Ibama started investigation to see if fraud highlighted in the US was being committed in Brazil. Volkswagen will be notified on Friday to provide clarification," the environmental agency, without elaborating. In Brazil, the diesel passenger car marketed by Volkswagen Amarok is the truck, which since 2010 had sales of 83,890 units in the country.
