FAA proposes new measure of airworthiness for Boeing 787

The US Federal Aviation Administration proposed a new airworthiness directive (AD) for some of the first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, after a report found a defect in a component of the wing.

The report said some fixing holes may not have been properly carried out when manufactured. This may develop fatigue cracks and weaken the structure of the main wing, so that would not be possible to sustain the load in flight when in MTOW, the FAA said.

AD, which will enter into force on 09 March, will review the maintenance program or inspection to include a limitation of airworthiness for repetitive inspections of the mounting holes in the flex-T wings, said the FAA.

Boeing was not immediately available to comment on the matter.
