Boeing will eliminate more than 4,500 jobs

Boeing will eliminate about 4,000 jobs in its division of commercial aircraft in the middle of this year and about 550 jobs in a division that conducts flight tests and laboratory, as stated by a spokesman for the Reuters.

The aircraft manufacturer will lay off 1600 workers in the commercial aircraft division through voluntary redundancies, while the rest of the cuts are expected to be completed, leaving open positions unfilled, said spokesman Doug Alder.

"For now there is no target to reduce employment, the more we want to control costs as a whole, with minimal impact to the job," Alder said.

The job cuts, including hundreds in executive and management positions, will not be done through involuntary layoffs, Alder said.

Boeing will also cut about 10% of about 5,700 jobs in its testing and evaluation division, which conducts flight and laboratory tests, as said spokeswoman Sandra Angers to Reuters.

December 31 Boeing recorded a total of 161,400 employees, as stated in the annual operations report.
