The first Airbus aircraft produced in the American production unit flew for the first time on 21 March.The A321 for JetBlue, took off in Brookley located in Mobile, Alabama, at 9:36 am, performing a test sequence in systems, engines and structure performance. After nearly 4 hours of flight the aircraft landed safely.
More than 300 employees working in the installation cheered when the plane took off. "We have reached an important milestone in the production of any aircraft, but this is particularly special," said Daryl Taylor, Vice President and General Manager Airbus US Manufacturing. "The team has worked hard, and I'm proud of her skill and talent have brought us to this moment. Together, we are fulfilling the promise we made to the city of Mobile, in Alabama and the Gulf Coast, creating a new production center of commercial aircraft in the uS. "
Following the first flight, the aircraft will go through a few more weeks in the final production before being delivered to JetBlue.
