Airbus presented a new standard configuration for passenger A380, currently the largest aircraft inthe world in its segment. The new Airbus project will add 14 seats in three - class configuration (withpremium economy ), bringing the capacity to 543 passengers.
The development was presented by the head of marketing for Airbus, Ingo Wuggetzer the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX), held in Hamburg during this week.
The extra space is freed by reconfiguring the layout of the stairs at the rear of the aircraft. "The aircraft has a staircase round spiral, as you have in a castle. This was replaced by a square design ", said Wuggetzer. Another side effect was increased space at the rear Galley, which allows greater flexibility in board service.
Airbus said the new scheme will be available from 2018, and that the retrofit already active aircraft can be accomplished in a short time without compromising the fleet of each airline.
Recently Airbus delivered its first A380 aircraft configured for the use of only two classes, the launch customer was the Emirates, which received the first unit in November 2015. The dual class configuration has a capacity of 615 seats, 58 in business class and 557 in economy.
