The Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport in Brasilia (DF), to start the operation of independent simultaneous landings (when two planes can land at the same time at the aerodrome) in the first half of this year. This week the National Civil Aviation Agency approved the head of runway 11 right for precision landings. The system of landing precision instrument (ILS equipment that provides shaft and ramp information for the pilot) is one of the requirements for independent simultaneous operations.
Have independent simultaneous takeoffs must be reactivated within four months. "We are awaiting the opinion of the central regulator (DECEA) on the safety analysis," said Commander of the First Integrated Center for Air Defense and Air Traffic Control (CINDACTA I), based in Brasilia (DF), Air Gustavo Brigadeiro Adolfo de Oliveira Camargo.
On March 2 the simultaneous takeoffs operations were suspended after recording two incidents. In both cases (22/02 and 02/03) air traffic controllers acted immediately and prevented more serious problems. According to the commander of CINDACTA I, evaluations indicate that in both cases there was human operator error when entering data in the flight management system. "We decided to stay to understand what was happening," said the commander.
A measure that can be adopted is the new nomenclature of exit procedures for each bedside. The goal is to reduce the possibility of operators confuse the output commands. If so, the cards will be republished and the entire aviation community informed.
In normal operation the Brasilia airport can operate up to 62 takeoffs and landings operations for one hour, with the independent operation of the two lanes can handle up to 80 operations per hour. The airport is the only one in Brazil that can perform this type of simultaneous and independent operation of the two tracks, thanks to separation of 1810m between them, about 500m more than required by ICAO.
When simultaneous operation is activated, the air traffic control tower works with two teams: one focused on the southbound lane and one for the north. That is, as if there were two towers in action.
Between 12 November 2015 and 2 March 2016, during which the operation of independent simultaneous takeoffs was in force in the Brasilia airport, it is estimated that were made 14,000 takeoffs. There is no data on how many were simultaneous.
