A Boeing 737-800 Batik Air , PK-LBS record that performed the flight ID-7703, from Jakarta Halim Perdanakusuma to Ujung Padang (Indonesia) with 49 passengers and 7 crew, was taking off on runway 24 at 19h55L (12h55Z) when, for unclear reasons, ended up playing an ATR-42-600 , PK-TNJ record of Transnusa company that was crossing the runway under tow. the takeoff of the Boeing 737-800 was then aborted, to ensure the safety of all on board. Both aircraft caught fire, Boeing was evacuated via slides. Firefighters responded immediately and were able to extinguish the fire in minutes. There were no injuries.
Reports said the Boeing 737-800 was already accelerating for takeoff on runway 24 when the ATR towed crossed the track. The Boeing aborted the takeoff but could not stop in time to avoid the collision.
Batik Air informed that their flight had been allowed to take off and was speeding when the towed aircraft crossed the runway.
