Boeing presented this week a revolutionary upgrade program for fighter-bomber F-15 Eagle, currently the main defense and attack aircraft of the United States Air Force (USAF). Call the manufacturer of "2040C", the new version is available with radar and more advanced sensors and weapon racks on the wings adapted to carry up to 16 missiles, double the current capacity of the F-15 in service.
The package of new components also contains an important data-link system able to connect the F-15 to the modern F-22 Raptor to exchange and record information during flights and combat missions. Until then, the fighters "talk" through tailored software.
The concept of the Boeing to upgrade the F-15 still has greater disposable fuel tanks, which can increase the autonomy of the aircraft, currently at about 2,000 km without refueling.
The name "2040C" indicates the year in which the F-15 date may be retired in 2040, and the "C" is a reference to F-15C, hunting version proposed by Boeing to be modernized. Besides the US, the American manufacturer also offered the update package for Japan, Israel, South Korea and Saudi Arabia, who are the other members of the Eagle.
