The pope gave Francisco a getaway Vatican late on Thursday to make a surprise visit to an optical in Rome and buy new lenses for your glasses, insisting that his former frame was reused and would pay for them. The pontiff drove to the Ottica Spiezia in sophisticated Via del Babuino. Dismissing luxury cars and using his small Ford Focus, the pope drew a crowd of curious tourists and Romans showed pictures of Italian TV.
The shop owner, Alessandro Spiezia, who had already made glasses for the pope before but always gave the Vatican through counsel, he said he did not know about the visit of the Pope in person to the store."He told me to reuse the old frame because he did not want to spend much money, and insisted on paying," Spiezia told Italian TV.
The pope arrived accompanied by one of his secretaries and a driver as well as several plainclothes police. He stayed inside the store for about half an hour while Spiezia explained using your new glasses.Francisco waved to the crowd in front of the store before returning to the Vatican. In an interview with Mexican television last year, the Argentine Pope said since his election in 2013 he missed being able to walk alone for Rome and go out to eat a pizza.
