The annual flight of employees survivors "Breast Cancer One" Delta Air Lines took off on October 1, starting one month duration with campaign aims to promote awareness and raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (Research Foundation Breast Cancer).
This year marks the 11th annual flight of Delta survivors who will take over 140 employees breast cancer survivors on board the Boeing 767-400ER newly painted pink. The flight took place between New York to Mexico City.
For the second consecutive year, selected Delta customers who are breast cancer survivors or are currently in treatment and also participated in the flight. The Delta customers were encouraged to share stories of the person who provided tireless support during his journey through an airline's contest on social networks called Unsung Hero.
Unsung Hero In addition to the contest, Delta also held an online auction SkyMiles Experience, where three customers donated a total of 263,071 miles, which will go directly to the BCRF and their efforts. The three customers along with their companions, will also be part of the flight, totaling ten clients on board.
In Mexico, the survivors will receive one night stay which includes dinner and a meeting with Dr. Sofia Merajver, one of the world-renowned researchers from BCRF. Almost 80% of employees of the involved Delta are participating for the first time.
Since 2005, Delta employees, customers, friends and family raised more than $ 9.2 billion for BCRF, including $ 1.3 million last year. The contributions have funded the vital work of 37 different research projects over the years.
To further promote awareness and support for research of breast cancer, Delta employees will wear uniforms roses and sell products in the same color, including lemonades and headphones roses aboard its aircraft and Delta Sky Clubs in the entire month of October. Yields on airline roses products will benefit BCRF.
