The US president, Barack Obama, said the Russian bombing campaign in Syria is "only strengthen" the Islamic State and sinking the opposition to the government of Bashar Assad. At a news conference at the White House on Friday, Obama also said that support for the Syrian regime is a "recipe for disaster".

According to the American leader, the Russian strategy "does not distinguish between the Islamic State and the moderate Sunni opposition that wants Assad's exit. From their perspective, they are all terrorists, and that's a recipe for disaster." "The problem here is the brutality that Assad has imposed on the Syrian people, and it has to stop," he said.

Obama reiterated that the end of the four-year conflict in Syria passes inevitably by Assad's exit from power. "We will not cooperate with the Russian campaign to simply destroy who's is against Assad's behavior." He said the intention of his country is not to turn the civil war in Syria in a war between the US and Russia. "This is not a chess game between superpowers."
