Reuters - Boeing said Friday it is considering layoffs of engineers, a plan that can make a reorganization and consolidation of engineering teams, according to an internal memo obtained.
Boeing said in a memo to employees that the company is deciding whether to make voluntary layoffs for workers, according to the document. The company also said it does not intend to replace the top-level employees, except in rare situations.
The internal announcement comes two weeks after Ray Conner, chief executive of Boeing aircraft company, to warn employees that job cuts will be needed to "win in the market, fund our growth and operate as a healthy business."
Conner said the job cuts would start with the executive team and managers. The note sent Friday by Delaney said Boeing was considering offering buyouts to its engineers and technicians who are employed conveyed to union members.
"We will closely examine the potential impacts to the function and our ability to serve our customers," Delaney said. "We expect to finalize our analysis as quickly as possible and share our decision all within a few days."
