Saab has made available its Swordfish system, maritime patrol, to be used in two new platforms; the Q400 turboprop and jet Global 6000 businesses, both Bombardier.
Swordfish mission system for maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) Saab has strategic multifunction capabilities. Swordfish is enabled for patrol missions or search and long-term saving, but is also able to perform more complex tasks of anti-submarine warfare and surface anti-drive. Swordfish also offers an ISR capability (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) land that can be inserted into infrastructure operations and existing support.
This flexibility allows the platforms Swordfish system be able to meet the widest range of functions and C4ISR and maritime combat missions. The system combines COTS operating sensors, from multiple vendors, with specialized systems for electronic warfare mission management and C4I's own Saab. The advanced and fully integrated package of sensors is offered in interchangeable workstations with intelligent automation degree and support system, which means more action with fewer operators.
The choice of Bombardier models comes at a decisive moment for the Canadian manufacturer at the same time allowing Saab rely on platforms with broad global support. The Q400 and Global 6000 are known for their high levels of reliability and performance. For operators choosing dedicated aircraft in the market allows for simplified integration.
Saab provides a permanent trend of fixed-wing aircraft of opportunities for maritime missions, which occurs in parallel to continued proliferation of submarines. Only the Asia-Pacific region are expected over 100 submarines in operation by 2020.
