ATR conducted a test flight as the second step of the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking program (CS JU) that seeks to find more environmentally efficient solutions for aviation.
The flight used as a test platform an ATR-72, which received a number of new technologies for generation and consumption of electricity, with special focus to the electric air conditioning system.
In a previous flight, the same aircraft has made some trials relating to acoustic insulation through composite materials such as fiberglass new alloy. On the same flight was also tested a new generation of optical fiber, which should reduce the microcracks and reduce maintenance.
