The Airbus A320neo Lufthansa operated the first time outside of their standard base, which consisted of flights between Hamburg in Germany and Frankfurt, which is located a large maintenance center of Lufthansa Technik.
This was also the first international flight of A320neo being carried out generating revenue for an airline, and consisted of a route called Frankfurt, Germany, to London Heathrow. The aircraft responsible for performing this flight was the second A320neo fleet, registration D-AINB.
Lufthansa stated that this flight was conducted to familiarize the airline and the airport with long reach of the A320neo routes. Lufthansa also plans to conduct several flights to other European cities later this year to test the aircraft's ability in various situations and places that do not have the support of Lufthansa Technik.
The German airline said it still suffers from the problem of start of the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines fitted to the Airbus A320neo, and that this small problem requires specific procedures at the time of starting an engine, thus justifying all caution Lufthansa on adaptation of teams working on the aircraft.
By the time the Lufthansa received 2 units of the A320neo, the first delivery made in January 2016, timid and without any special event, the second was held in March. Later this year Lufthansa will receive 5 units of the A320neo, and 2 have already been delivered, as described above, and the 3rd will enter the fleet during the summer. Altogether the airline has orders for 52 aircraft of this type.
