Today, American Airlines celebrates 90 years in commercial aviation, connecting families, businesses and cultures around the globe. The history of this airline began on April 15, 1926, when the legendary aviator Charles A. Lindbergh, the chief pilot of Robertson Aircraft Corporation, took off from Chicago in a DH-4 biplane to postal mail service by going to St. Louis. Nine decades later, Robertson is counted as one of the many airlines that would eventually become what is now the largest airline in the world, American Airlines.

To celebrate the 90th birthday of American, customers American Airlines flight from Chicago O'Hare to London Heathrow will enjoy a special celebration. The flight crew will display a banner with the original logo of American Airlines out the airplane window during taxiing, named after an old tradition in American. The placement of banners bearing the company logo was exclusive to the "Fleet Flagship" of American Airlines, the famous DC3 that were once part of its fleet.
To celebrate the occasion, customers traveling in "aircraft 90" will receive a special treatment in the on-board service offered by world famous Garrett Popcorn Shops in Chicago, as well as a commemorative photo album. Throughout the day, the American officials will celebrate the birthday party at airports around the world.
The history of American as a pioneering airline in commercial aviation history has been perpetuated since the first flight of Lindbergh. American was the first airline to introduce non-stop transcontinental trip in 1953, besides being the first airline that hired an American commercial pilot African, Dave Harris, in 1964.
