Pratt & Whitney will release update Pure Power until August

In detail, engine Pratt & Whitney equipping an Airbus A320neo.

Pratt & Whitney will be launching its new update for the engine of the Pure Power series until the month of August, or as they promised during the summer. This pack composing new components for the physical part of the engine and a new control software, comes to solve the old issue of Start slow and premature wear of parts that are at the core of the propellant.

Currently to start an engine of PW1100G series, Team Airbus family aircraft A320neo, it takes about 3 minutes totaling in 6 minutes when recorded both engines during this procedure, the aircraft must remain stopped and coupled to a system of pressurizing air. P & W promised that with this update the new time to start to take a maximum of 100 seconds, well below the CFM states for the Leap-1A, which requires only 50 seconds.

The motor is located in the cooling problem of their parts between the upper and lower due to differences in the type of metal used. This was causing differences in the expansion of the material in a way that after 1 hour with the engine would need to make a special starting procedure, which consists of leaving the engine running lens for a while to start injecting fuel. According to P & W, the problem would be located on the blades that scrape the inside, which in addition to wear out the tips also cause harmonic vibrations in the shaft.

The solution to the problem is made simply and clearly, each blade received special protection at its tip, and apply reinforcements in two bearings. These improvements will be launched this month for Airbus, and after driving for a short period of testing should equip A320neo aircraft operating today with Pure Power engine.
